Discussions and Conclusions

DAO Additions and Removals

  • New additions and removals from the DAO will happen every Sunday, at the beginning of the DAO Town Hall.
  • sub-DAOs handle their own additions and removals. The DAO constitutes the overall general structure.
New DAO Additions

In the context of evaluating activity within the server and the DAO channel, @BillysDiscord mentioned the following:

@BillysDiscord: A potential Grape Tool is in the works to allow communities to move from proof of community to proof of activity

This tool would assist projects in keeping track of server engagement for various purposes. In the context of the Grape DAO this would allow the objective analysis of metrics that would constitute activity for maintaining/entering the organization.

Removals:

Will be happening once a month after discussion. This will allow some flexibility for maintaining the role in periods of occasional inactivity

Grape Network Treasury Proposal Discussion

In continuation of the discussion regarding a fund managed by the Researcher Sub-DAO, @Whales Friend submitted a proposal highlighting significant details regarding the eligibility requirements and the fund structure.

@Whale’s Friend we have a lot of brain-power. It is a shame not to use it and not manage risk to increase liquid holdings. We will most probably keep large amounts in SOL and USDC to allow for flexibility.

Proposal Details and Requirements

Treasury Management and Fund Structure

The treasury committee will manage two identical (in weights) funds in parallel.

Fund A (Treasury Fund): will manage the treasury holdings of the Grape Network

Fund B (Committee Fund): will manage the security deposits of the Committee

  • As discussed, there should be a maximum of 6 Members in the group to guarantee efficiency, effectiveness, and swift decision making
  • Each Committee Member will deposit 1,000 USDC to Fund B to create a security net in order to create a sense of “skin in the game” and avoid illicit behavior.

A short discussion was held surrounding the incentivization mechanism for the researchers operating the two funds.

@adamsol: We will need to be mindful of individuals front-running fund decisions. So prevention and incentivization mechanisms are important.

Since researchers have no upside from the performance of Fund A and 1,000 USDC is relatively small as collateral for incentivization, 2 ideas were discussed to align interests:

  • Add a lump sum prize of 30,000 GRAPE tied to the success of the fund
  • Have a more traditional, hedge fund-like, performance fee approach, based on percentage returns

It is important to mention here that reevaluation and future proposal amendments will allow finetuning of these details.

Feedback for the proposal by @Arximedis can be found on the dedicated proposal channel Grape Network Treasury Proposal. Main points of disagreement include:

  1. Role eligibility Requirements
  2. GRAPE eligibility Requirements
  3. Add processes regarding selection, success criteria, entry/leave
  4. Add a mission statement and clauses regarding conflict of Interest and incentives

The DAO decided to allow 7 days for members to read, study, and amend it so that the vote can take place.

Discussion on Other Active Proposals

NFT Solana Gaming Proposal

The growth of play-to-earn gaming on Solana has created a plethora of opportunities that Grape can take advantage of to increase its community base.

According to the proposal submitted by @Barndog, Grape should be donating NFTs for play to earn to the Grape Community. These Community Gamers will utilize these NFTs and, in the words of @Barndog

@Barndog this could be a great source of content, partnership possibilities, and advertising

As discussed in the meeting though, the Yield Guild Gaming (YGG) scholarship model should come later: When tools and processes are put in place and specifically, when the rent feature starts being implemented in games.

  • Current Model: donating NFTs as prizes to drive Grape engagement

Effectively, by sponsoring players, this is a win-win for the Grape treasury, the community, and by extent support Solana gaming as a whole.

The conclusion was that the first natural step is developing a treasury of Gaming NFTs and later having a team to utilize them in the context of gaming. Hence, a proposal should be expected for a specific amount of emissions towards this in order to kickstart the Solana Gaming Idea, for next week.

DAO Documents Process

In the past week, a GIP (Grape Improvement Proposal) template was proposed in the DAO structured along with a Proposal Submission Requirements Document.

The initial idea was to use GitHub for these proposals but after a discussion on the learning curve associated with its use, Squads was deemed the optimal solution

@DeanTheMachine Squads is something that we will be able to use in late October/early November allowing. Squads will also allow all proposals active to the Grape squad. Potentially the user will be able to not only see proposals but also Sub-DAOs.

Additional Requirement Idea: Minimum Number of Authors

Another requirement proposed in the call for the submission of proposals was that there should be a minimum amount of authors.

This would guarantee that the proposal has been socialized enough and is worthy of submission. It should be mentioned that this is something that will be also pushed forward in Grape’s on-chain future in the form of a number of author signatures.

Solana Update Proposal

This proposal was introduced on Saturday. The DAO decided to wait on this and also allow some time for everyone to get acquainted with the proposal.

Emissions Update

Up-to-Date Emission Allocations for the remainder of this Epoch (finishing October 31st)

Note: All Poker winnings, Hearthstone, and Super TeamReviews prizes have been distributed as of Saturday, October 9th.

Barndog Solana Gaming Emission Allocation

As decided in the call, another 6,000 GRAPE will be allocated to Barndog’s stream (an additional 2000 every week until Epoch 1 ends). It is a sufficient amount to assist in the growth of Grape’s gaming community.

Remaining Emission Utilization Idea: Gaming Event with Bitspawn

Co-sponsoring a gaming event with Bitspawn would be a significant step towards crossing over to different games and partnerships.

As decided in the call, the Grape DAO is willing to offer

  • 5,000 for the Bitspawn team organizing the event
  • 20,000 for event prizes

This potential event should be available to Class B Membership (5,000 GRAPE) and above.

Here note that 80% of competitions and events will be exclusive to Class B and above and only 20% will be available for class C

Details on New Call of Duty Tournament

  • 2 more events with a 50,000 GRAPE prize pool each will take place before Epoch 2 starts
  • The remaining assigned 50,000 will be put back to the treasury

Unfinished Discussion and DAO Tasks

  1. NFT Solana Gaming Proposal Finalization along with specific GRAPE amount requested from the DAO
  2. DAO Proposal Documentation: Discussion for a possible interim solution until onboarding Squads
  3. Solana Update Proposal: This proposal was introduced on Saturday. The DAO decided to wait on this and also allow some time for everyone to get acquainted with the proposal
