Grape DAO Town Hall: 26th Sept, 2021
Discussions and Conclusions
DAO Additions and Removals
- New additions and removals from the DAO will happen every Sunday, at the beginning of the DAO Town Hall.
- sub-DAOs handle their own additions and removals. The DAO constitutes the overall general structure.
New DAO Additions
New inclusions are sourced from the DAO prospects channel and the evaluation is based on the criteria shown in the table below:
As long as a community member is class A, they can submit an application in the DAO Prospects channel. However, having a skill role and being active are going to be necessary conditions for acceptance into the DAO post Epoch-1.
Removals from the DAO
- Removal will be automatic if the Grape balance of a community member falls below Class A (20,000 GRAPE)
Remaining Contest Emissions Discussion
In Epoch 1, 10 million GRAPE were released from the Treasury for emissions. The breakdown of the events and contests for the past month are seen below:
DeanTheMachine: We have a plethora of options for managing the remaining emissions. How would we best utilise this amount for the growth of the Grape community?
DAO members agreed that there was an over-allocation of funds towards the COD Warzone, Atlassian writing contest, and Poker events. This led to a discussion around the utility maximization of each new Epoch’s emissions.
The value produced by Grape will need to flow to new directions, and emissions are the best way to amplify that flow.
Possible Directions for the Remaining and Future Emissions
Contests/Events
- These entertainment skill-based events are a great way to give value to membership.
- They are a valuable aspect of the Grape Community and so they will continue to be funded
- Poker and COD Warzone: The earmarked amount totaling 250,000 GRAPE is estimated to be enough at least until mid-October
- New events for the month of October will use 50,000 GRAPE from the remaining emissions including a Hearthstone and a League of Legends event
Development Grants
- The purpose of these grants is to bootstrap open source code on Solana
- Grape, as the central point of the Solana ecosystem, has a duty to prioritise this type of Software Development
- Unanimous decision on the earmarked for development to be 100,000 GRAPE
Solrise Fund
- The DAO can allocate emissions towards for-profit investments outwards into the other Solana based projects
- DAO members and the community will encourage a healthy investing framework, recirculating value back to the Solana ecosystem
- Initial, still undecided, earmarked amount totaling 100,000 GRAPE for the Solrise Fund
More ideas on the use of Grape emissions were discussed, but not yet evaluated in detail by the DAO members:
- Creation of an operating fund, which reimburses people that compile information and make it easily digestible. Ultimately we need an infrastructure for the DAO (AdamdelSol Idea)
- Incentivisation of viewership and assistance in the growth of existing Grape/Solana content creators
- Spreading out of the prize pool to increase reach by using emissions by incentivising new members to join the Grape Community (Whale’s Friend Idea)
- Partnership support, including liquidity
Use of emissions for charity
It is a major long-term goal of Grape to be able to provide meaningful support to charities. However, the first step at this early point of the community’s evolution is to guarantee and sustain the viability and growth of the project.
The emissions discussion, at a point, led to the natural question: When should Epoch 2 begin?
- Since the Grape IDO brought down Solana, the release of the token had to be postponed until September 15th
- The initial goal was to have emissions every first of the month, which would be October 1st
Two Major Conflicting Propositions:
DeanTheMachine: November 1st giving the flexibility for one more month as well as to put the remaining 422,000 GRAPE in use.
VS
Whale’s Friend: no need to flood the market with more coins. We should not force it to be time-based and keep it loose.
After a lengthy discussion on these two proposals, the DAO concluded that the emission schedule needs to remain time-based, to allow better planning and tokenomics modelling. The performance-based option, even if it has merit, would need a complete, but unnecessary revamp
Billy’s Discord: The effect on price keeps decreasing every epoch. First one is 10%. It’s not a great deal. Real issue is not the actual schedule but the correct management of the emissions.
Research Sub-Dao: Incoming Official Request
- Community members with the researcher role are looking to pool funds of their own and manage it
- This would simply be a research value proposal to the general DAO to ask for an allocation from the Grape treasury
- The official request will come before the next DAO call
Proposal Requirements on Gitbook
Gitbook can potentially be the Hub where proposals move from the publishing stage all the way to voting, and potentially to the execution stage.
Key Requirements:
As presented by Arximedis
- Identify/Publish Key Requirements for Proposals (I.e. Date/Time, Category, Proposal Description, Key Stakeholders [From/To]
- Duration or Frequency, Amount, Currency, etc)
- Submission & State Tracking of Proposals
- DAO Member Feedback on Proposals
- DAO Member Voting on Proposals
- DAO Review & Decision from Vote (DAO Council — Accept or Veto) — Communication: State Transition from Proposal into Contract [Execute or Veto]
- Execution: Conversion of Proposal into Contract — Announcement of Contract Execution & QA
Unfinished Discussion and DAO Tasks
GROM Incubator Proposal
- The finalized DAO proposal for Grape’s first potential Incubator project, GROM, should be available by next Sunday’s Town Hall
- Discussion is ongoing in the new discord thread called Grom Incubator Proposal
Orca liquidity
- Possible allocation of emissions towards the ORCA emission double-dip pool(ORCA/GRAPE rewards).
- Need for a decision by the next DAO Town Hall
- The amount required: 200,000 GRAPE
